QUEENSLANDER TAKES HOME THE KING OF THE RIVER
Queensland based off road racer Rod Faggotter made the long haul from Longreach well worth the effort with a hard fought win of the 2012 Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash®. Completing the entire race distance in a total time of 5 hours 1 minute and 29 seconds. Second placed rider Luke Clay from Karratha flew across the line only 1 minute and 24 seconds behind the Queenslander and local star and previous Gas Dash winner Warren Kempton a further three and a half minutes behind Luke to claim the final place on the podium and making this year one of the closest finishes in the event's history.
One of the stand out behind the scenes achievements for the 2012 Gascoyne Dash was the manner in which event timing was conducted.Read more »

GAS DASH HEATS UP AT PROLOGUE
As the sun broke the horizon on the West Australian coastal town of Carnarvon, residents awoke to the sound of over 125 desert racers start their respective machines, all on-route to the prologue circuit centred at the Carnarvon Racecourse. This event unique in many aspects, one of which allows competitors to drive or ride their race machines on public roads over the race weekend.
Victorian Mathew Fish finished first outright and conquered the 201km Day One distance on what competitors described as a rough and fast track. Several of the front runners in both the bike and the car categories experienced uncharacteristic 'offs' and near-misses. A light breeze in the morning developed into strong gusty conditions come mid-afternoon; a further challenge to remaining competitors.Read more »

A new track section and new fuel point were completed on Doorawarrah Station this weekend.
Doorawarrah is now the exit point from the Gascoyne River section of the Dash. The fuel/hot point is approximately 1.5kms from the river exit and is located in a good sized clay pan. The Fuel point needs to be large to accommodate the car field’s need to re inflate tyres after the Gascoyne River section.Read more »

Club Announces $40,000 cash prize pool for 2012 Dash
Carnarvon Western Australia 27 July 2012.
Gascoyne Dash has announced a cash prize pool of at least $40,000 for the 2012 Kickstarters Dash®.
The Dash is a motorsport endurance event over 520kms of the toughest terrain Australia has to offer. Centered on the coastal town of Carnarvon Western Australia the event features 4WDs, buggies, bikes and quads.
With under 130 days to go to the 2012 Dash the Club found still time to assist the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum celebrate its opening which was attended by the second man to set foot on the moon Dr BUZZ ALDRIN.
The Gascoyne Offroad Racing Club Inc is hosting a tag along tour of the Dash Day One Track. The trip will happen on the weekend of 14th and 15th July.
This is a great way to get off the road and into some fun 4WD adventure. Cost is $50 per vehicle and we throw a cooked breakfast on the Sunday in with the price.
157 days to go until the 2012 Dash.
What have we been up to recently?
* Surveyed 20 kms of new track on Doorawarrah Station to replace the Doorawarrah fuel stop and get out of the river a bit sooner. Thanks to the Waddy Robinson.
* Upgraded fuel stop areas at Lyons North, Junction and Pells. The fuel points will be uniform in 2012. Thanks to Shiney Price and his Junction Concrete Services for help

Hail the victor, Justin Steadman in his Bat Pro Buggy won the 2012 ARB - Total Asphalt & Traffic Management Hyden 400 on the Easter long weekend. The win sets Steadman at the top of the 2012 State Championship race with 3 rounds to go.
The Bat Pro Buggy performed flawlessly all weekend at this reliability and some great driving by Steadman saw the team win by less than 30 seconds from Eric and Neil Phillips in the #96 Ballistic Racing Aceco. The weekend had some funny stories and the Steadman with new nav Andrew McCarthy added to the humour by deciding to pit rather than continue their second lap on Saturday, we wonder if this was for McCarthy to change race suits.
Ted Schultz and Paul Kelly visited Waddy Robinson of Doorawarrah Station to discuss track changes for 2012. The "old" Doorawarrah fuel stop has disappeared at the 2010 Flood and this necessitates a change.
The fuel point is now likely to be several kilometres down river of its current site and will now be the exit from the river section. Car competitors will have a 10 minute time allowance to inflate tyres at this stop but otherwise the break will be parc ferme until the end of time allowance.Read more »

Through trials and tribulation the Gascoyne Off Road Racing Club Inc has hosted yet another successful Gascoyne Dash®. After the historic floods throughout the Gascoyne region in December 2010, the committee were forced to run a changed format of two 185 kilometre loops around Bidgemia Station at the base of the Kennedy Ranges.
Thirty five cars, sixty four bikes and ten quads ran through scrutiny on Thursday in the centre of the coastal town of Carnarvon. The following day all competitors shook the leaves from the mangroves when Prologue launched from the Carnarvon Racecourse.
Event Management reviewed the 2011 Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash results early this morning. Comparison of time penalties and credits applied revealed an error in the application of a time plenty to OBR car #13. The time penalty for the stop sign infringement, as decided by the Club’s Disciplinary Committee at 5.00 pm on Sunday 30th October, was 20 minutes; the penalty had been recorded as 30 minutes.
The 2011 Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash has been run and won with Ben Grabham taking out the King of the River title, the first outright bike winner for several years. 2010 winner Warren Kempton came in second with Ivan Erceg - everyone's favourite bad boy completing the top three.
The car competitors were greeted with a cool and still morning to start the 2011 Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash. First off the line was Travis Robinson and Paul Currie in the OBR Jimco 13 followed by Australian Champion Team of Dave Fellows and Mark Bergamin.Read more »
Trav Robinson has bought the OBR 13 home in 2h.10m.22 a time under under 3 minutes slower than his 2010 conquering effort. This is an amazing result given how difficult the track was in sections.
Seven minutes adrift of OBR 13 is the local guns of Justin Steadman and "The Saxinator" in the V8 Bat special.
The coastal town of Carnarvon turned on the weather and action for the prologue section of the 2011 Dash.
First out were the bikes lead by 2010 winner Warren Kempton. The cars were fired into action at 10.30am and the twin turbo Jimco of OBR's Trav Robinson and Paul Currie cracked the morning silence.Read more »

Event Management reviewed the race course with Bidgemia Station owner Lochie McTaggart yesterday (15th October). On the whole we are very pleased with progress of track marking which should be completed by mid-week and a final inspection during the week leading up to the 2011 Dash.
The one area of extreme concern is access to the new Wyndham section, leg four Day One. The extent of flood damage to the sole access road was not immediately apparent from the aerial survey. The damage did become evident when Mr McTaggart commenced repair work and the assessment yesterday confirmed recovery of race machines would be very difficult. Race Director Paul Kelly explains "Wyndham is east of the main track and very inaccessible at the best of times. We are very concerned that recovery may not be completed same day and this may ruin the weekend for competitors who could get their machine going overnight and race Day Two. We have taken the decision to delete the Wyndham leg".Read more »

Filthy Racing is a husband and wife team or more correctly the wife and husband team of Tanya and Ian French with Tanya doing the driving and Ian the pointing.
Filthy Racing evolved out of an idea to get more participants in the entry level of off road racing almost two years ago, Tanya explains “Ian and I had noticed that a great amount of the spectator crowd was comprised of more women than men. We figured if we could encourage some of those female spectators to become more involved in the sport itself either in the driver capacity or navigator capacity it would swell our ranks and in turn, give the clubs the opportunity for more members for every facet of the sport.

The 2011 event planning has't been without dramas; large sections of the day one course were washed away with the Flood and most of the Gascoyne River is inaccessible due to riverflow. The latter situation has caused a major rethink to the 2011 event with organizers deciding on running both days around Bidgemia Station and deleting the Sunday run down the Gascoyne River.
The 2011 entry will not open until 30 June 2011. The delay is a due to the December floods and more recent river rises. The Event Management is currently surveying track conditions and assessing course changes. With any changes there is a possibility they will impact on location of fuel points or distances between fuel points; we want to ensure the information released in the Supp Regs and entry form is correct so as not to inconvenience competitors.Read more »

Year-round, drivers, crews and officials find themselves in hot, humid and sometimes poorly-ventilated environments. The colour of one’s urine is a quick indication of whether they are sufficiently hydrated; whereby the clearer the urine, the more hydrated one is.
Based on this concept, CAMS has developed a hydration awareness program Clear to Steer, aimed at increasing education and awareness on dehydration and heat illness.
