2016 Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash

It is with great sorrow that the Gascoyne Off Road Racing Club wishes to inform you that due to low confirmed entries the 2016 Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash will not be held as it is not economically viable.

This decision has not been made lightly, however it does give the committee the opportunity to reinvigorate the event.

All entry fees that have been paid will be reimbursed in full. Deb will be in touch to get your bank details and confirm the amounts paid.

Rest assured that this is not the end of the Gascoyne Dash and we will have exciting news for everyone in the near future.

The Gascoyne Off Road Racing Club would like to thank everyone for their support and we look forward to growing the relationship in the years to come.

The ADVENTURE continues!

2009 In Review

  • The 2009 year was one with some challenges and many huge successes; the successes were;
  • The 2009 Event DVD going national on the cover of Australian Trailrider; that is in excess of 30,000 copies across Australia
  • 3 national magazines carried event features; Dirt Comp, Dirt Action and Australian Trailrider
  • Our Fundraising Committee held two very successful events including the praised Burlesque Black Tie Ball which is still the talk of Carnarvon; a great effort from a Team that included many new faces
  • Visit by a Judge of the WA Tourism Awards to review the business and our documentation; the Judge’s comments in respect to our professionalism and level of important documentation was very positive
  • The Dash became an Accredited Tourism Business
  • The Dash was accepted as a finalist in the 2009 WA Tourism Awards with 11 other contestants in the Events and Festivals Category
  • One of our Bronze accredited CAMS officials. Paul Kelly, was invited to attend the CAMS State Round of the Hyden Humps as deputy clerk of course
  • The 2009 Dash field increased 23%, a great effort given concerns over the GFC
  • The 2009 Dash field had 2 overseas competitors including Bat Racing’s Brandon Harcus from South Africa who finished 4th outright in car division driving a Bat Spec 3; this was Brandon's first hit out in Australia. We also hosted a number of interstate competitors including 2009 Condo 750 winner Todd Smith who also took outright bike honours in the 2009 Dash
  • The cars went quicker than the bikes for the first time in Dash history with overall winner Travis Robinson and Paul Currie piloting the No. 13 Jimco around the course in 4hrs55mins36.14secs
  • A 2wd vehicle in the form of the Gwynne Bros Pro Truck successfully completing the course and finishing a very respectable 6th outright for cars
  • An excellent result for local riders who took out 4 of the top ten outright and local hero Kirk Williams taking out the quads and 18th outright
  • The Dash being honoured with the Bronze Medal in the 2009 WA Tourism Awards only being beaten by high profile events Argyle Diamonds Ord River Muster with Gold and Skyworks with Silver. A truly fabulous effort and thanks to Justine Lawler for her vital input to the application process.
  • Our dedicated group of builders and plumbers and electricians and supervisors completed construction of the Camp Area ablutions
  • Many new volunteers including Cathy Bird and Debbie Cowan who organised volunteers during the course of the year
  • Community groups Lions, Rotary, PCYC, Carnarvon School of the Air and Carnarvon Senior High School assisting in vital areas during the course of the Dash competition
  • Justine Lawler joined Paul Kelly and Ted Schultz on the Event Management Team
  • Extensive work being completed on strategic plans and risk management
  • Very strong cash flow management and spending decisions by the Event Management Team
  • A very safe 2009 Event with very few injuries
  • Dash volunteers being asked to assist the Carnarvon community through the Main Street Community with traffic management for the highly successful 2009 Main Street Party
  • A very healthy profit and positive cash flow in 2009. Treasurer Glenda Sullivan has spent considerable time updating the accounts.

The challenges were;

  • Negative cash flow position at start of 2009
  • The GORRC Inc board operating 4 persons short during the course of 2009 with retirements for personal and health reasons
  • Gaps in key positions due to lack of succession planning and persistence in having our key volunteers commit their event intellectual property to a form that can be seamlessly leveraged (commit what you do to writing to help the next person)

Going forward for 2010 the Events Management Team are already well into planning for the 2010 Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash.

To ensure 2010 is as successful as 2009 we need;

  • All positions on the Committee of Management filled at the AGM and a commitment to add value to the Club through management of portfolios
  • To fill key volunteer positions and to ensure the activities are captured in a dynamic operating plan.

All members should be very proud of their Club and the achievements, not only for 2009 but the years before it, to get this great Event to where it is now.
