2016 Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash

It is with great sorrow that the Gascoyne Off Road Racing Club wishes to inform you that due to low confirmed entries the 2016 Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash will not be held as it is not economically viable.

This decision has not been made lightly, however it does give the committee the opportunity to reinvigorate the event.

All entry fees that have been paid will be reimbursed in full. Deb will be in touch to get your bank details and confirm the amounts paid.

Rest assured that this is not the end of the Gascoyne Dash and we will have exciting news for everyone in the near future.

The Gascoyne Off Road Racing Club would like to thank everyone for their support and we look forward to growing the relationship in the years to come.

The ADVENTURE continues!

It's.......race time

Posted on 01.11.2012

Perfect conditions are forecast for the 2012 Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash. Significant rainfall last Saturday will provide good sub-soil moisture but 44mm won't be enough to restrain the desert dust from rising.

Waterholes are remnant from last year's floods but they're not big enough to stop the race from returning to its original format of the run back to Carnarvon on day two, along the dry riverbed of the mighty Gascoyne River. Cool temperatures-mid-twenties throughout the weekend-should allow competitors some reprieve from the desert heat and a chance to tackle the terrain in earnest.

Nominations are strong with 102 bikes and 28 cars entered however last year's King of the River Ben Grabham is still recovering from injury and will not compete. Grabham's former 2012 Tatt's Finke Desert Race KTM team mate Matt Fish will make the trip from Victoria to take on the Gassy Dash for the first time. He's just one of a number of hot contenders. He finished eighth outright at a recent enduro event in Morocco and has secured a ride for the 2013 Dakar with the Husqvarna Factory team. There's a strong local element within the bike category that are back to battle it out with interstate and international competitors from the likes of Columbia and South Africa.
It's an open field for the car competitors with 2011 outright winners from Outerbounds Racing #13Travis Robinson/Paul Currie absent. There are some 'pointy end' Pro Class buggies ready to claim the title though. The two Pinjarra Engineering BAT cars of #968 Brad Cooper/Mal Yeardly and the #68 Justin Steadman/Greg Finlay will be quick, as will the #44 car that finished third outright last year (ex Ken Styles) recently purchased by Shane Elphinstone/Warren Fennel. Current Extreme 4WD Australian champions #801 Russell Cullen/Marcus Christie will lead a host of 4WD's with healthy representation in the Suzuki class nominated.

Scrutiny now complete, Prologue will be underway tomorrow morning at the Carnarvon Racecourse with bikes set to leave the line at 8am and the cars at 10.30am, to negotiate the 15km circuit in the fastest possible time. After the race start order is determined, the mass exodus to Gascoyne Junction and on to the Coonantha Race Complex will begin. All are welcome. There's full bar and canteen facilities, free camping, hot showers and flushing toilets. Join us at the 10 000 000 star hotel; it's an experience.

In conjunction with the Gascoyne Dash, the Dirt Art Festival provides some world class entertainment and is building year after year thanks to the hard work of many under the direction of Gascoyne Regional Arts Coordinator Theaker Von Ziarno. Throughout the weekend, be amazed by local and international acts of aerial, fire, burlesque and live music - Friday night from 5pm and Saturday night from 6pm out at Coonantha; it's family friendly and its free. Headline acts include Australian circus royalty Lillykoi who has just returned from her European tour as has street performer Scoobs. The Bad Piper is the world's only flame-throwing punk rock piper. Well known Perth band Ill Starred Captain will perform as will Chris Matthews and the Gascoyne Circus Crew.

On Sunday The Gasy Dash will conclude at the Carnarvon Race Course with the first of competitors estimated to arrive around 11am. Locals can stay tuned to Hot Hits 99.7 FM throughout the day for race updates as they broadcast trackside at the finish line. Entertainment will start from 6pm till late and entry into the racecourse is free.

The Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash committee and Event Director Paul Kelly wish all competitors, crew and spectators a safe, fun and action packed weekend.
