2016 Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash

It is with great sorrow that the Gascoyne Off Road Racing Club wishes to inform you that due to low confirmed entries the 2016 Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash will not be held as it is not economically viable.

This decision has not been made lightly, however it does give the committee the opportunity to reinvigorate the event.

All entry fees that have been paid will be reimbursed in full. Deb will be in touch to get your bank details and confirm the amounts paid.

Rest assured that this is not the end of the Gascoyne Dash and we will have exciting news for everyone in the near future.

The Gascoyne Off Road Racing Club would like to thank everyone for their support and we look forward to growing the relationship in the years to come.

The event volunteers are the unsung heroes of our event, without you the Dash cannot be staged.

2011 was a success in most respects, all competitor briefings and start times were on the dot. The registration and scrutiny tasks went very smoothly. Prologue was very professional but we lacked some coordination of volunteers early on that morning.

The volunteer briefing on Friday afternoon/evening was a bit later than expected simply because many people arrived later that afternoon. The starts were well coordinated. The fuel point and road crossing teams worked well in most instances. We have reviewed the layout of fuel points and these will be improved in 2012 with permanent posts placed for shade and perimeter outline. Fuel points will be well off the race line and well sign posted with permanent signs; each fuel point will be exactly the same.

Road crossings in 2012 may be manned by accredited traffic controllers who will stop the road traffic and give competitors an unimpeded run. We may also increase the number of checkpoints and dot them around the race course.

A volunteer debrief was held on Thursday evening and this well attended session highlighted some very positive outcomes and yielded some important feedback on issues. 

The 2012 event will be similar to this year's. A river section will be included on the Sunday and the overall race distance may increase 50 to 100 kilometres. A discussion topic was tabled at the debrief to consider a change in format to an "out and back" style similar to the Finke Desert Race, we welcome feedback on this issue.
