GAS DASH HEATS UP AT PROLOGUE
As the sun broke the horizon on the West Australian coastal town of Carnarvon, residents awoke to the sound of over 125 desert racers start their respective machines, all on-route to the prologue circuit centred at the Carnarvon Racecourse. This event unique in many aspects, one of which allows competitors to drive or ride their race machines on public roads over the race weekend.
Fast Finish For Fish
Victorian Mathew Fish finished first outright and conquered the 201km Day One distance on what competitors described as a rough and fast track. Several of the front runners in both the bike and the car categories experienced uncharacteristic 'offs' and near-misses. A light breeze in the morning developed into strong gusty conditions come mid-afternoon; a further challenge to remaining competitors.

A new track section and new fuel point were completed on Doorawarrah Station this weekend.
Doorawarrah is now the exit point from the Gascoyne River section of the Dash. The fuel/hot point is approximately 1.5kms from the river exit and is located in a good sized clay pan. The Fuel point needs to be large to accommodate the car field’s need to re inflate tyres after the Gascoyne River section.

Hail the victor, Justin Steadman in his Bat Pro Buggy won the 2012 ARB - Total Asphalt & Traffic Management Hyden 400 on the Easter long weekend. The win sets Steadman at the top of the 2012 State Championship race with 3 rounds to go.
The Bat Pro Buggy performed flawlessly all weekend at this reliability and some great driving by Steadman saw the team win by less than 30 seconds from Eric and Neil Phillips in the #96 Ballistic Racing Aceco. The weekend had some funny stories and the Steadman with new nav Andrew McCarthy added to the humour by deciding to pit rather than continue their second lap on Saturday, we wonder if this was for McCarthy to change race suits.

Urgent Competitor Notice - Change to Day One
Event Management reviewed the race course with Bidgemia Station owner Lochie McTaggart yesterday (15th October). On the whole we are very pleased with progress of track marking which should be completed by mid-week and a final inspection during the week leading up to the 2011 Dash.
The one area of extreme concern is access to the new Wyndham section, leg four Day One. The extent of flood damage to the sole access road was not immediately apparent from the aerial survey. The damage did become evident when Mr McTaggart commenced repair work and the assessment yesterday confirmed recovery of race machines would be very difficult. Race Director Paul Kelly explains "Wyndham is east of the main track and very inaccessible at the best of times. We are very concerned that recovery may not be completed same day and this may ruin the weekend for competitors who could get their machine going overnight and race Day Two. We have taken the decision to delete the Wyndham leg".

Filthy Racing is a husband and wife team or more correctly the wife and husband team of Tanya and Ian French with Tanya doing the driving and Ian the pointing.
Filthy Racing evolved out of an idea to get more participants in the entry level of off road racing almost two years ago, Tanya explains “Ian and I had noticed that a great amount of the spectator crowd was comprised of more women than men. We figured if we could encourage some of those female spectators to become more involved in the sport itself either in the driver capacity or navigator capacity it would swell our ranks and in turn, give the clubs the opportunity for more members for every facet of the sport.

Update: 2011 Event Changes
The 2011 event planning has't been without dramas; large sections of the day one course were washed away with the Flood and most of the Gascoyne River is inaccessible due to riverflow. The latter situation has caused a major rethink to the 2011 event with organizers deciding on running both days around Bidgemia Station and deleting the Sunday run down the Gascoyne River.

Important Hydration Information
Year-round, drivers, crews and officials find themselves in hot, humid and sometimes poorly-ventilated environments. The colour of one’s urine is a quick indication of whether they are sufficiently hydrated; whereby the clearer the urine, the more hydrated one is.
Based on this concept, CAMS has developed a hydration awareness program Clear to Steer, aimed at increasing education and awareness on dehydration and heat illness.
