Gascoyne Offroad Racing Club is hosting a new event, the Wooramel 300, on the weekend of 8th and 9th May 2010. This event has been made possible by the owners of Wooramel Station, Justin and Rachael Steadman.
Wooramel Station is 120kms south of Carnarvon WA and the event is being promoted by the Gascoyne Offroad Racing Club Inc, the outfit that brings you the Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash.
Entry fee is $275.
The course is a circuit of approximately 40 kms with a river section, fast station tracks and break away country. Event Director Paul Kelly explains "the Wooramel 300 is being staged to give our members and other competitors an opportunity to experience race conditions prior to the Gascoyne Dash. We hope to encourage those people that want to experience desert racing to give the much shorter and far less hostile course of the Wooramel 300 a go?".
If you want some practice for the 2010 Dash or Finke this is the event for you.
Scrutiny and registration for visitors is on Saturday morning with arrangements for locals the preceding weekend.
Camping is available at the Station and entry is free. Carnarvon School of the Air is manning the bar and canteen which should prove popular with a selection of camp food.
Please note the station owners have asked there be no fires.
Paul Kelly explains an important volunteer aspect "the Wooramel 300 is a great opportunity for our Dash volunteers to practice their roles; we have made 2 mandatory fuel stops on each day for competitors and there will be senior officials on hand to oversee the right and wrong ways of performing important duties".
Entry details can be obtained from www.gasdash.com or emailing admin@gasdash.com or calling Paul Kelly on 0427427154.
